This is a really great book with a good message that is incredibly relevent in our area. The illustrations are great and our son immediately took to them and the story. It's great to get our son some exposure to taking care of something that normally isn't in the forefront of people's minds.

The author has done a great job at getting an important message out in a creative way to children and parents alike. A must have for anyone living or vacationing anywhere near bear habitat (and a fun read even if you don't)!

This book really well written and the pictures are beautiful. It teaches your children a way to help bears in a very simple way (keep them away from human food). My son ( 2 yo) loved this from the first time I read it to him. I highly recommend this book!

This is a delightful children's book! I really appreciate the hand drawn illustrations! Your child can really get to know the bear characters as the story is told in rhyming prose. The story is an environmental contribution and tells a great tale of keeping trash out of the reach of our local bears. Darling story. Love it!

Spooner the Bear is a well written (in rhyme) and beautifully illustrated book that teaches children (and their parents) how to live near bear populations. The problem that Spooner and friends encounter is a very real problem, and the solution is quite simple, if only humans would educate themselves.

Having lived in Lake Tahoe for many years I love the story about a bear educating his human and bear friends about the dangers of leaving trash out that attracts our bear friends and causes them harm. Most of us underestimate the sense of smell wildlife has. Urban bears are not only a nuisance; they can be a real danger. Spooner takes it upon himself to pick up and dispose of human trash accessible to bears. Spooner and Fitzgerald remind us we have an ethical responsibility to the natural world when we move into shared neighborhoods.

Wonderful children's book with a great message told in engaging rhyme. Spooner the bear and his animal friends spend all their free time cleaning up the messes made by other bears who have gotten used to eating garbage rather than what they were born to eat. The message urges humans to dispose of garbage properly so that the bears can't smell it. The illustrations are bright and with appeal to kids and adults. My grandchildren love this book!
